Gerd Leipold

Gerd Leipold (born January 1, 1951 in Rot an der Rot ) was chairman of Greenpeace International from 2001 to November 2009 . His successor was Kumi Naidoo .

Life

Gerd Leipold graduated from the Bernhard-Strigel-Gymnasium in Memmingen and studied physics from 1970 to 1976 at the Ludwig-Maximilians-Universität in Munich . From 1976 to 1982 he was a research assistant at the Max Planck Institute for Meteorology in Hamburg. There he dealt with changes in the global climate, from 1977 to 1978 he completed a research stay at the Scripps Institution of Oceanography , La Jolla in California.

From 1983 to 1989 he was managing director of Greenpeace Germany. In August 1983 he protested against nuclear tests with a balloon ride from West Berlin over the Berlin Wall. From 1990 to 1998 he was a member of the supervisory board of Greenpeace Germany. Before he became General Manager of Greenpeace International in 2001, he worked in London . As the owner of a consulting firm, he not only advised Greenpeace for several years on the development of campaigns and communication strategies, but also the Red Cross, Oxfam , ActionAid and Consumers International . In 2015 he was appointed Chairman of the HBC University Council for three years . Hochschule Biberach University of Applied Sciences elected.
