Gerd Mielke

Gerd Mielke (born December 22, 1947 in Schleswig ) is a German political scientist and honorary professor for state politics at the Institute for Political Science at the University of Mainz and a former employee of the State Chancellery of Rhineland-Palatinate .

Life

Gerd Mielke studied history , political science and English at the University of Freiburg from 1969 to 1974 . Then he was a doctoral student with Dieter Oberndörfer . In 1984 he received his doctorate and was then a research assistant and academic advisor at the Department of Scientific Politics at the University of Freiburg, and since 1980 he has been a member of the “Freiburg Elections Working Group”. From 1992 to 2004 he worked under Prime Minister Rudolf Scharping and Kurt Beck in the State Chancellery of the State of Rhineland-Palatinate in Mainz, a. a. Head of the “Policy Issues and Government Planning” department and Head of the Policy Issues Unit. From 2004 to 2015 he was head of the department for university relations at the Ministry for Education, Science, Further Education and Culture of the State of Rhineland-Palatinate. In 2004 he became an honorary professor at the Institute for Political Science at the University of Mainz. In 2008 he became a Fellow of the NRW School of Governance at the University of Duisburg-Essen. Since 2019 he has been the first chairman of the sponsoring association of the Wiesneck study house for political education in Buchenbach near Freiburg.

Gerd Mielke is primarily concerned with researching questions of state politics . This specialization is closely related to his many years of experience in the Rhineland-Palatinate State Chancellery. In addition, he researches and teaches in the areas of electoral sociology, party research and the field of research on the development of government centers.
