Gerhard Fettweis

Gerhard Paul Fettweis (born March 16, 1962 in Antwerp ) is a German electrical engineer and professor of communications engineering .

Life

Gerhard Fettweis is the son of communications engineer Alfred Fettweis . As a scholarship holder of the German National Academic Foundation, he studied electrical engineering at RWTH Aachen University from 1981 to 1986 , where he obtained his doctorate in 1990 following his studies. He then worked as a visiting scientist at IBM and TCSI Inc. in Berkeley .

Since 1994 he has held the Vodafone endowed chair for mobile communications systems at the Institute for Communications Technology at the Faculty of Electrical Engineering and Information Technology at the Technical University of Dresden .

In 1995 he received the Technical Communication Research Prize . In 1999 he founded Systemonic AG and in 2003 Signalion in Dresden .

He is a member of the Lower Saxony Scientific Commission , which advises the Lower Saxony state government on questions of science and research policy. Until March 2010 he was the coordinator of the top cluster Cool Silicon , a project of Silicon Saxony with funding from the BMBF . Fettweis coordinates the Cluster of Excellence Center for Advancing Electronics Dresden (cfaed), which is being funded in the third edition of the Excellence Initiative as the second Cluster of Excellence of the TU Dresden. Fettweis has been the coordinator of the interdisciplinary 5G Lab at the TU Dresden since 2014 .

In 2009 he was elected an IEEE Fellow. Since 2012 he has been a member of acatech - German Academy of Science and Engineering . On March 23, 2016, Gerhard Fettweis was elected a member ( matriculation number 7674 ) of the Leopoldina . Also in 2016 he received the VDE honor ring.
