Gerhard Gabriel (pastor)

Gerhard Gabriel (born June 29, 1950 in Farsleben ) is a former representative of the opposition movement in the GDR . His father, Pastor Christfried Gabriel, was also the pastor's son. From 1980 until his retirement in 2015 he was a Protestant pastor in Grüneberg ( Oberes Havelland church district in the Evangelical Church Berlin-Brandenburg-Silesian Upper Lusatia ). In 1984 an ARD team filmed its unconventional efforts to preserve the church there. Gerhard Gabriel has been awarded the Federal Cross of Merit on ribbon .

His sister Katrin Eigenfeld was in pre- trial detention at the Ministry for State Security of the GDR for subversive agitation in 1983 and took part in the illegal establishment of the New Forum in September 1989 .
