Gerhard Hecht (politician)

Gerhard Hecht (born September 14, 1934 in Magdeburg ; † February 2, 2009 in Halle an der Saale ) was a German politician ( SPD ). From 1990 to 1998 he was a member of the state parliament of Saxony-Anhalt .

Education and life

Gerhard Hecht completed his studies in natural sciences in 1958 with a degree in physics and received his doctorate in 1963 from the Martin Luther University in Halle-Wittenberg . Between 1958 and 1991 he worked in various areas at the Leuna works (materials science, thermodynamics, IT, process engineering). From 1964 to 1970 he held part-time teaching assignments at the Technical University of Merseburg , where he completed his habilitation in 1968 with the work of investigating the principle of similarity of thermal state variables . Since the 1970s he has carried out voluntary activities in nature conservation and environmental protection, among other things as district nature conservation officer in Halle-Neustadt (1977–1981), as an employee of the working group on species protection at the council of the district of Halle (1984–1990) and as chairman of the working group Heimische Orchids in the Halle district (1985–1990). Gerhard Hecht was married and had three children.

Gerhard Hecht joined the SDP during the fall of the Wall in December 1989 . In 1990 he was chairman of the Halle district council of the SPD, in 1992 a member of the Halle-Merseburg-Saalkreis sub-district committee and from 1993 to 1995 chairman of the SPD district association Merseburg-Querfurt. In the first state election in Saxony-Anhalt in 1990 , he was elected to the state parliament via the state list, where he acted as the environmental policy spokesman for the SPD parliamentary group. In the state elections in Saxony-Anhalt in 1994 he was able to win the Merseburg constituency and sat for a second electoral term in the state parliament, in which he now also worked as the deputy chairman of the environmental committee. Hecht was also chairman of the personnel commission at the TH Merseburg from 1991 to 1993, a member of the board of trustees of the Merseburg University of Applied Sciences in 1995 and a member of the district council of Merseburg-Querfurt from 1999 to 2004 . In parallel to his parliamentary activities, he published several books on political philosophy and an autobiography .
