life and work

His real family name is unknown. Alwin Schultz writes about this in an article in the Anzeiger für Kunde der Deutschen Vorzeit from 1880: “His father's name is Heinrich Gerhard, so Hendrik Geritzoon. Our master is called Gerhard Heinrich so Gerit Hendrikzoon. The mother Margaretha Wilhelmine will also have originally been called Margaretha Willemsdaughter. ”The father left the Netherlands around 1572, worked in Kiel until 1578 and then lived in Gdansk until 1585. It is believed that Hubert Gerhard belonged to the family.

Gerhard Hendrik seems to have spent the years 1585–1587 traveling in France, Italy and Germany. From 1587 he lived in Breslau. His widow remarried on February 15, 1616.

He created a number of tombstones for local patricians as well as u. a. Johann Crato von Krafftheim , the von Rehdinger family, Caspar Hessler von Waldau and Andreas Dudith .
