Gerhard Hesse (lawyer)

Gerhard Hesse (born April 2, 1970 in Vienna ) is an Austrian lawyer . He is a designated judge at the General Court of the European Union .

Life

Hesse studied from 1988 jurisprudence at the University of Vienna and spondierte at 1993 Mag.iur . In 2002 he received his doctorate with a dissertation on non-contributory special benefits in European social law with excellent success as a Dr.iur .

During his studies, Hesse worked for the law firm of Gabriel Lansky , from 1993 to 1994 for the National Council member Peter Schieder . In 1994 he entered the federal service and worked for the constitutional service from 1995 to 2000 and from 2002 to 2007 . From 2000 to 2002 he was employed in the Chamber of Labor .

Between 2007 and 2010 he was Deputy Head of Cabinet of the Federal Chancellor ( Gusenbauer , later Faymann ). In 2010, after Georg Lienbacher's term of office had not been extended, he was appointed head of the constitutional service and thus head of the section . In 2015, his function was extended for a further five years until 2020. On May 1, 2020 he was followed by Albert Posch, who is close to the ÖVP .

In May 2019, it was announced that Hesse had been appointed judge at the General Court of the European Union .

Hesse has been a member of the SPÖ since his youth .
