Gerhard IV von Geldern (* around 1185 ; † October 22, 1229 ) was Count von Geldern from 1207 until his death .

Life

Gerhard IV was a son of Count Otto I von Geldern . In 1206 he married Margaret of Brabant in Leuven , a daughter of Duke Heinrich I of Brabant and sister-in-law of Emperor Otto IV. Together they had the children Otto II von Geldern , (around 1215 to 1271), Heinrich (later Bishop of Lüttich; † April 23, 1285), Margareta († before 1251), Ricarda († 1293/98).

Gerhard IV. Was able to further strengthen the Geldrische power position by gaining several Rhine tariffs and customs in the diocese of Utrecht as well as shares in the episcopal tithe . There were disputes with Holland, Brabant and the Archbishops of Cologne. In the German controversy for the throne , Gerhard IV was loyal to the Hohenstaufen .

Gerhard IV and Margareta are buried in the cathedral church in Roermond .
