Gerhard Jäger (born February 8, 1958 in Filzmoos , Salzburg ) is a former Austrian ski racer . The giant slalom specialist was in the national team of the Austrian Ski Association from 1977 to 1982 and achieved two podium places in the Ski World Cup .

biography

Jäger won his first World Cup points in March 1978 when he finished eighth in the giant slaloms of Stratton Mountain and Waterville Valley . But the next winter he never made it into the top ten. At the beginning of February he suffered a kidney contusion in the giant slalom in Jasná , which is why he had to end the season early.

In the 1979/80 season , Jäger was among the top ten three times. Best placement was fifth in Waterville Valley. He finished twelfth in the Giant Slalom World Cup. In the 1980/81 season he achieved his best results: At the start of the giant slalom of the 3-Tre races in Madonna di Campiglio , he came on the podium for the first time behind the Swede Ingemar Stenmark and the Russian Alexander Schirow . The second podium, and at the same time his best ever World Cup result, he achieved on March 14, 1981 in the giant slalom in Furano . Behind the Russian Shirov, who celebrated his first World Cup victory in this race, Jäger took second place. In the Giant Slalom World Cup he still fell two places compared to the previous year.

In the winter of 1981/82 , Jäger was twice in the top ten. For the world championship in Schladming he could not qualify. After the season he announced his retirement.
