Gerhard Käfer (born September 18, 1943 ) is a German lawyer and was managing director of juris GmbH , Saarbrücken , until December 31, 2009 .

Training and career start

Gerhard Käfer graduated from high school in Rimbach in 1963 . He then worked in Palo Alto as a technician for Hewlett-Packard . He then studied law in Baden-Württemberg and Hesse . In 1969 he passed his first state examination, in 1973 his second. Then he was prosecutor for youth matters in Darmstadt .

In 1974 he was hired by the Federal Ministry of Justice , which was looking for judges and prosecutors to set up a legal information system ("juris"). Käfer was particularly responsible for the development of the data acquisition process. When the system became a limited company in 1985 , Käfer became deputy managing director. He has been managing director since juris moved from Bonn to Saarbrücken in July 1987. In March 2001 he became management spokesman. On December 31, 2009, he resigned from the management.

Other activities and honors

Since 1994 he has held lectures at Saarland University in which he introduces law students to the use of the juris databases. For this commitment and for his scientific merits, he was awarded an honorary doctorate by the university on July 16, 2003 ; The laudator was Professor Maximilian Herberger . In 2009 he was honored with a festschrift.
