Gerhard Meyer (Librarian)

Gerhard Meyer (born August 4, 1900 in Christiansfeld , † November 1, 1984 in Königsfeld in the Black Forest ) was a German historian , librarian and director of the (later) Gottfried Wilhelm Leibniz Library - Lower Saxony State Library .

Life

Born during the German Empire , Meyer studied history, German literature, philosophy, art history and law during the Weimar Republic . In 1925 he received his doctorate and entered as Dr. phil. joined the library service in Leipzig . From 1927 he worked at the Lower Saxony State Library in Hanover . In 1953 Meyer was appointed director of the state library and headed it until 1961.
