The oeuvre includes hundreds of large-format cloth objects, material images, metal sculptures, paintings, drawings and collages. On the occasion of the Opitz memorial exhibition in the Städtische Galerie Tuttlingen in January 2001, the mayor of the city praised the artistic commitment and work with the following words: "The influx of visitors shows the great appreciation that the people of Tuttlingen have for the artist, who died in 1999," said Koloczek. The city also owes a lot to Gerhard Opitz. He helped shape and shape the regional art scene. At the beginning of the 1970s, Opitz was one of the engines that made modern art even noticed and exhibited in Tuttlingen. "
