Athletic career

Pfeiffer had previously played at Dessau 98 and in the 1947/48 season, like many other Dessauers, played a game for Werder Bremen in the Oberliga Nord as a "zone diver" . In 1955, at the age of 34, Pfeiffer moved from the company sports association (BSG) Motor Neustadt / Orla to the second-rate GDR league club SC Motor Jena. In Neustadt Pfeiffer had last played in the third-rate district league Gera . In the early 1950s, Pfeiffer was part of the Thuringia team, with which he played five games.

In the fall of 1955, a transitional round with 13 game days was played in GDR football, since from 1956 the schedule was changed from summer to spring to the calendar year schedule. On the 4th match day Pfeiffer was used as a half-left striker for the first time in the transition round. In the 4-2 win over Wismut Gera, he scored a goal in his first game for Jena. Of the 13 game days of the transition round, Pfeiffer played eight games in which he scored three goals. In his first second division season in 1956 he was immediately one of the assets of the Jenaer. On the half-left attacking position he fought for a regular place, played all 26 point games and scored 15 of the 89 league goals of SC Motor. With a four point lead, the Jena won the GDR league season in 1956 and thus secured promotion to the GDR league.

When Pfeiffer played his first league game on March 17, 1957 at the encounter between SC Turbine Erfurt and SC Motor Jena (1: 1), he was almost 36 years old. At first, coach Warg let him play on the half-left regularly, but the 10th season point game SC Motor Karl-Marx-Stadt - SC Motor Jena (1: 3) on June 22, 1957 was a farewell game for Pfeiffer, he was only in the 82. Substituted minute. Pfeiffer played 48 competitive games for SC Motor Jena within three years and scored 21 goals. In the GDR Oberliga he came on ten missions and scored one goal.

After his playing career, Pfeiffer worked as a coach for his home sports association Motor Neustadt / Orla.
