The Zehnsberg is 413.4 m above sea level. NHN high mountain in the Eichsfeld district in northwest Thuringia ( Germany ).
Geographical location
The Zehnsberg is located between the villages of Hundeshagen in the north, Leinefelde and Breitenbach in the south-east and Beuren in the south-west and, depending on the demarcation, lies at the transition from the upper to the lower eichsfeld . The district town of Heilbad Heiligenstadt is about nine kilometers to the south-west.
nature
The predominantly forested mountain, only in an easterly direction there are some agricultural areas, consists of deciduous and coniferous forest. In a southerly direction to the Kessenberg ( 434.5 m above sea level ) there is an emperor oak , in the west towards the Kalten Lindenberg ( 413.2 m above sea level ) there is a linden tree as a natural monument. North of the mountain plateau is the edge to the Duderstädter basin of the Eichsfeld basin . The mountain is the source area of numerous tributaries to the Hahle ( Nisse ) and Leine ( Line directly on the mountain plateau, Volsbach , Haarbach ).
Origin of name
The origin of the name is presumed to be from the medieval tithe , the mountain formed the border between the Saxons to the north and the Thuringians, who were partially exempt from tithe, south of the mountain. The first written records exist for the years 1600 and 1673. The mountain still forms the linguistic border between the Low German and Central German dialect in Eichsfeld.
particularities
The old forester's house "Zehnsberg" (412.2 m) stands on the mountain near the former country road 2018 between Steinbach and Breitenbach and the L 2016 from Breitenbach to Hundeshagen . To the southwest at the foot of the Zehnsberg there is a ground monument with desertification and Volsbach glassworks from the early 16th century. The mountain gives its name to the larger forest area of the same name, Zehnsberg, and the entire mountain range of the Zehnsberg from Leinefelde to the state border with Lower Saxony .
