Beuren is a district of Leinefelde-Worbis in the Eichsfeld district in Thuringia .

location

The place Beuren is located about three kilometers southwest of the old town of Leinefelde on the northern edge of the Dün in the Leinetal . The place is on Landesstraße 3080 and has a stop on the Halle-Kassel railway line .

history

The first documentary mention of Beuren took place on July 7th, 1128 in a court document. At that time there was a fortified manor around which the village was built. Around 1200 a Cistercian monastery was founded in Niederbeuren ("Buren inferior") by Konrad von Bodenstein. It is the oldest monastery of this order on the Eichsfeld.

Beuren developed from a market village (1238 "forensi Buren") to a town (1269 "in civitate Buren") through customs and escort income. Urban development began, recognizable by the gates, urban street layout and fortifications.

The portal of the Catholic Church of St. Pankratius with the bell tower

With the relocation of the customs office to Heiligenstadt in 1294 , Beuren lost its town charter. From 1870 to 1873 the Catholic Church “St. Pankratius “built. The old church that had existed until then was torn down. Only the "Old Tower", which was originally built as a customs and residential tower and later served as a church tower, has been preserved. The monastery mill was mentioned on the outskirts of the village since 1525; it was located outside the monastery complex.

On June 6, 2000, the place Beuren was incorporated into the city of Leinefelde as part of a regional reform.

Noble family

In the old market town of Beuren, members of a noble family are probably known as the ministerials of the Counts of Gleichen :

  • 1128 the Free Gothardus de Buren in a document from Archbishop Adalbert
  • 1261 Bertold von Büren, mint master
  • 1303 Bertold von Büern the Younger

Attractions

Scharfenstein Castle

To the south of Beuren lies Scharfenstein Castle on a mountain spur on the northern roof of the Dün ( Schlossberg ) .

Former "customs tower"

The former customs tower

In the middle of the village, not far from the church, there is a striking round and slim-looking tower. The building files show that this tower had served as the town's former customs tower and that it was already there when the foundation stone was laid for the former Beuren church in 1342. A demolition of the church and tower requested in 1880 was expressly forbidden by the then Prussian monument authority in Erfurt with regard to the tower, and funds for the repair and maintenance of the tower were even approved in the further course.

Beuren Abbey

Beuren Abbey

Beuren Abbey is on the western edge of the town . Today the buildings serve as a retirement and nursing home.
