Weng is located in the Isar-Inn hill country about two kilometers west of Bad Griesbach.
history
At the time of the Duchy and Electorate of Bavaria, Weng was the center of the Weng office in the Griesbach district court , to which the Weng chairmanship belonged. From this the walked control district Weng and 1818 with the second Gemeindeedikt out the municipality Weng.
The town, which is characterized by agriculture, was originally cared for by Karpfham . In 1500 it was raised to an expositur and in 1807 to a parish . In 1989 there were 930 Catholics. In the parish of Weng, Konrad von Parzham (Johann Birndorfer) was born on the Venushof in the Parzham district in 1818 .
The municipality of Weng was expanded in 1934 to include the dissolved municipality of Buchet with Buchet and Schildorn. She came to Griesbach im Rottal on January 1, 1972 as part of the municipal reform .
Attractions
- The parish church of St. John the Baptist is late Gothic and was expanded in 1849. On the outer wall is the tombstone of Brother Konrad's parents Bartholomä and Gertraud Birndorfer.
- The school of the canonized in 1934 is very close.
- In the north is the Catholic pilgrimage church of St. Wolfgang . She has a wooden figure of St. Wolfgang from 1480, a figure of Mary from 1460 and a late-Gothic group of figures of Anna herself third . The furnishings are early Rococo, the high altar from 1738 was made by the sculptor Johann Wenzeslaus Jorhan . Johann Birndorfer was baptized in this church on December 22, 1818.
