Breitenbach is a district of Leinefelde-Worbis in the Eichsfeld district in Thuringia .

location

The place Breitenbach is located about halfway between the core towns of Leinefelde and Worbis on the northern edge of the Dün . Bundesstrasse 80 / Bundesstrasse 247 runs through the village .

history

Breitenbach was first mentioned in 1227 in a land exchange with Leinefelde. In 1373, Breitenbach came to the Archdiocese of Mainz through a purchase under Adolf von Nassau. Many residents of Breitenbach were known as traveling salesmen and weavers. A specialty of the village are the slippers known as "booties".

Breitenbach was affected by the persecution of witches from 1681 to 1682 . Two women got into witch trials and were burned alive.

In 1991, Breitenbach was a founding municipality of the administrative community "Am Ohmgebirge" Worbis. On March 16, 2004 it was incorporated into the newly created twin town of Leinefelde-Worbis.

The district mayor of Breitenbach is Irene Born (CDU).

The B 247 and the B 80 used to run through Breitenbach . Today the B 80 has been replaced by the nearby federal motorway 38 and the B 247 has been placed on a bypass . The L 3080 and L 2018 are still running in the village .

rail

The train stop at Breitenbach (Eichsfeld) was on the now decommissioned Untereichsfeldbahn from Wulften via Duderstadt , Teistungen and Worbis to Leinefelde .
