Hundeshagen is a district of the city of Leinefelde-Worbis in the Thuringian district of Eichsfeld .
history
Hundeshagen was first mentioned in a document on April 15, 1282, when the Lords of Westernhagen received patronage over the church. About 1.5 kilometers west of the village, the Westernhagen Castle was on a hill, surrounded by an artificial watercourse. There are no more traces of Osterhagen Castle, but it was located on a verifiable hill near the village. The noble family Hagen is a well-known family and sat in several villages in the area. The castles were destroyed by farmers in 1525, but named again in 1557.
Hundeshagen belonged to Kurmainz until secularization in 1802 . From 1802 to 1807 the place was Prussian and then became part of the Kingdom of Westphalia . From 1815 he was part of the Prussian province of Saxony . Under the Prussian sovereignty, and especially in the middle of the 19th century, those tragic events that plagued Hundeshagen at that time accumulated. With the outbreak of the German Revolution of 1848/1849 , there was also fighting in Hundeshagen, the owner of the Eylungen estate caused particular indignation, who harassed the residents and had them illegally imprisoned. However, the uprisings were stifled when Mühlhausen cuirassiers and hunters from Nordhausen marched into the community, occupied the place, published profiles and sentenced many residents to long prison terms. These were carried out in the Lichtenburg prison and the Petersberg in Erfurt .
After the establishment of the Nazi regime, there were serious clashes between residents and SA people in 1934, and three Hundeshagen residents were sentenced to prison in 1935. During the Second World War , around 30 women and men from Poland and the Ukraine had to do forced labor for farmers and on the Hermertal estate since 1939 .
From 1945 to 1949 Hundeshagen belonged to the Soviet occupation zone and became part of the GDR from 1949 . From 1961 until the turnaround and reunification in 1989/1990, Hundeshagen was affected by the closure of the nearby inner-German border. Since 1990 the place belongs to the re-established state of Thuringia.
The place is also known as Eichsfeldisches Musikantendorf, as the traveling trade of musicians played an important role here from the 17th century. Around 1700 the Lords of Westernhagen founded the Freedom Colony below their Osterhagen Castle . The residents soon made their living as traveling musicians. They developed their own language, which was called Kochum . This made it possible for the traveling musicians to communicate outside of their hometown without anyone outside being able to see the content of the conversation. This made sense because one could freely communicate on issues such as politics or justice without expecting action from the state authorities.
Hundeshagen has had a cardinal Meisner seat at the church since 2014 . During the GDR era, the Hundeshagen citizens helped finance the later cardinal's theology studies (as was the tradition in Eichsfeld). Meisner was closely connected to the place throughout his life and to the entire Eichsfeld.
On July 6, 2018 Hundeshagen was incorporated into the city of Leinefelde-Worbis.

coat of arms
Blazon : "On a red background a golden rafter, on the right accompanied by a six-spoke wheel, on the left accompanied by a silver harp, at an angle three silver bells."
The Hundeshagen coat of arms consists of three symbols that stand out on a red background. A spatial separation is created by a yellow bar, which is triangular in the middle of the upper edge of the coat of arms and symbolizes the roof of the bell house of the church. The following symbols are separated: On the one hand the Mainz wheel in the upper left part of the coat of arms, which reminds of the fact that the Eichsfeld belongs to Mainz . On the other hand, there is a harp on the upper right side of the coat of arms, which points to the history of the place’s traveling musicians. The center of the coat of arms is formed by three bells, which show the architectural features of the church in Hundeshagen.
language
Traditionally, in Hundeshagen, as in the rest of northern Eichsfeld, Eichsfelder Platt is spoken. However, the place borders directly on the language border to Thuringian , which is spoken in the southern neighboring towns. There was also Kochum as a special local language . Today these languages have largely been replaced by Standard German .
The Kochum language is a peculiarity of the hare . To give a brief insight into the language, some examples are listed alphabetically here.

"Kochum" refers to the origins of the inhabitants of the place from the migrating population ("Kochemer") of the early modern period. It can be assigned to the Yenish idioms. It contains elements of Yiddish and Roman . A related language is the Masematte spoken in Münster . The fact that the word music occurs more frequently and in different variations shows that Hundeshagen's residents were traveling musicians and used this language to communicate with one another. The name "Klingerdilms" refers to a music association in Hundeshagen, which undoubtedly took its name from Kochum. There are many references to traditional traveling musicians.
Numerous research materials to the dogs Hagen wandering musicians (including rare audio documents) are now in the university archive / Thuringian State Music Archive Weimar the Hochschule für Musik Franz Liszt .
