Gerhard Prince

Gerhard Prinz (born April 5, 1929 in Solingen ; † October 29, 1983 in Stuttgart ) was Chairman of the Board of Management of Daimler-Benz AG from 1980 to 1983 .

Gerhard Prinz came from an entrepreneurial family in Solingen. He studied economics and law and received his doctorate in the latter. Then he was assistant to the managing director of the Iron and Steel Industry Association in Düsseldorf, Hans Dichgans . This was followed by a job at Brown, Boveri & Cie. under Kurt Lotz , with whom he moved to the Volkswagen group in 1967 . In 1969, Prinz became a member of the VW Board of Management, and in 1973 he finally moved to Daimler-Benz, where he was responsible for materials purchasing on the Board of Management. In 1977 he was responsible for the purchase of the American heavy-duty truck manufacturer Euclid Trucks . On January 1, 1980, Prince succeeded Joachim Zahn , but died just four years later at the age of only 54 of a heart attack .
