Gerhard Schmid (archivist)

Gerhard Schmid (* 20th July 1928 in Greiz ; † 1. January 2013 in Weimar ) was a German archivist and archive researchers .

Live and act

Schmid studied history, German studies and church history at the Friedrich Schiller University in Jena from 1947 to 1951 , with Karl Griewank , Karl Heussi and Friedrich Schneider , among others . In 1952 he received his doctorate there with the text " Efforts and Advances in the Question of Denominational Equality at the Westphalian Peace Congress " . After a subsequent post-graduate studies at the Institute of Science Archive in Potsdam Schmid was from 1953 to 1970 an archivist at the German Central Archive in Potsdam . From 1971 to 1993 he was archivist at the Goethe and Schiller Archive in Weimar , since 1991 as director.

As a university lecturer, Schmid worked at the Technical College for Archives Potsdam (1953–1960) and at the Institute for Archives in Potsdam as well as in the field of archival science (since 1990 again: Institute for Archival Science) at the Humboldt University in Berlin (1953–1993) the field of records . He has been an honorary lecturer since 1978 and an honorary professor for archival science and historical auxiliary sciences since 1985 .
