Gerhard Staab (born November 21, 1893 in Berlin , † January 2, 1951 in Munich ) was a German film theater manager and production group leader for Reich German film.

Live and act

Staab had started studying law in his hometown of Berlin when he was drafted shortly after the start of the First World War. After his release from captivity, he began his professional civilian life on Berlin theaters and took on various administrative positions with the theater makers Heinz Saltenburg , Victor Barnowsky and Max Reinhardt .

In 1926 he was appointed new director of the Berlin premiere cinema Gloria-Palast by the UFA . During the transition from silent to talkies, Staab took over the management of all UFA cinemas in the west of the capital. In 1935 Gerhard Staab moved to Terra and began his career as a film producer. He later held the same position for the production companies Tobis (1937 to 1940) and Bavaria (1940 to 1945).

Staab productions were mostly lightweight, qualitatively well above average entertainment films with only rarely Nazi propagandistic undertones (like Hans Steinhoff's " Die Geierwally ").

After the end of the war, Staab hardly had any contact with the film industry. His development work for the Munich company 'Venus-Film' of actress Olga Chekhova was no longer fully effective due to his unexpected death at the beginning of 1951.
