Gerhard Thümmler

Gerhard Thümmler (born July 6, 1920 ; † July 13, 2007 ) was a German editor and historian .

Life

Thümmler learned the profession of typesetter. From 1948 to 1950 he oversaw the publication of the new issue series of the East German Federation of Trade Unions (FDGB), With the FDGB on vacation . He then joined the state management of Saxony for the cultural association for the democratic renewal of Germany. There he became secretary of the nature and homeland department in the Dresden district management in 1952 . When the new issue series Heimatkundliche Blätter of the Dresden district was published in 1954 , from which the Sächsische Heimatblätter emerged , he became honorary editor of this scientific journal of the Dresden, Karl-Marx-Stadt and Leipzig district boards of the societies for local history, published by the Kulturbund der DDR Preservation of monuments and for nature and the environment . Six issues appeared annually at a price of 2.50 marks each. He later took up a distance learning course in history at the Humboldt University in Berlin , which he completed in 1965 with the diploma thesis The Socio-Economic Composition of the Saxon State Parliament from 1864 to 1873 as a historian. In later years he received an honorary doctorate.

Gerhard Thümmler also worked for several years at the Institute and Museum for the History of the City of Dresden and as director of the Moritzburg Castle Baroque Museum .
