Ken Wessel

Kenneth "Ken" Wessel or Kenneth "Kenny" Wessel (* 1956 ) is an American jazz musician (guitar, composition) and music teacher.

Wessel studied at the Manhattan School of Music . Between 1988 and 2000 he toured with Ornette Coleman and his band Prime Time , on whose album Tone Dialing he was involved. With Badal Roy and Stomu Takeishi he presented the album Daybreak in 1998 as a collaborative trio , which received very good reviews. In 2004 he recorded the album Jawboning ( CIMP ) in a trio with Ken Filiano and Lou Grassi ; 2006 presented the album Weights & Measures under his own name , which was created with the participation of Joel Frahm , Peck Allmond , Brad Jones and Kenny Wollesen . In 2016 an album with Debashish Bhattacharya, Anders Lønne Grønseth and Subhashis Bhattacharya followed, which reflects Wessel's interest in North Indian music .

He also worked with Sam Bardfeld , Lewis Porter , William Gagliardi and Adam Rudolph . On Donald Fagens album Morph the Cat he played the guitar solo in "Security Joan". In the 2000s and 2010s, Wessel also recorded with Virginia Mayhew , Ingrid Sertso and Stephen Gauci . In the field of jazz he was involved in 28 recording sessions between 1995 and 2016. As a composer, he has received several grants from the Meet the Composer program . He teaches at the Long Island University Brooklyn Campus and at the City University of New York .
