Samuel J. "Sam" Bardfeld (born January 14, 1968 in New York City ) is an American jazz violinist .

Live and act

Bardfeld studied jazz at Wesleyan University (graduated in 1990) with Bill Barron , 1990–91 with a scholarship from the Ford Foundation, ethnomusicology with Mark Slobin . He also had lessons in jazz improvisation with Richie Beirach and George Garzone , in violin playing with Gerald Beal. From the end of the 1990s he worked a. a. with Ehran Elisha , Anthony Braxton ( Two Compositions (Orchestra) 2005 ) and with Roy Nathanson and his Jazz Passengers , as well as in various Latin jazz projects, such as with Johnny Almendra y Los Jovenes Del Barrio and Johnny Pacheco . He has also played with Cameron Brown , Bruce Springsteen ( Live in Dublin ), John Zorn , Frank Vignola , Kevin Norton , John Cale , Debbie Harry as well as the String Trio of New York , the BBC Concert Orchestra , The Soldier String Quartet, The Raymond Scott Orchestrette, he has also worked as a musician, arranger and composer for film and television. I.a. with Drew Gress he recorded 1999 debut album Taxidermy ( CIMP , 1999), followed by Periodic Trespasses ( Fraeh Sound New Talent , with Sean Conly , Ron Horton and Tom Beckham ). In the field of jazz he was involved in 15 recording sessions between 1998 and 2010. a. with Michael Attias , Bill Ware and Joel Harrison . He presented the textbook Latin Violin (New York: Gerard and Sarzin, 2001).
