William Gagliardi

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

William Gagliardi (aka Billy gags , * 1947 in Staten Iceland , New York City ) is an American jazz - saxophonist (alto, tenor and soprano saxophone).

Live and act

Gagliardi worked as a musician since the 1960s, but mostly outside of jazz as a studio musician. It was not until he was 54 that he had the opportunity to record under his own name for the avant-garde label CIMP ; In early 2001 the album Music Is the Meditation was created . Gagliardi has been working in various formations with trumpeter John Carlson , bassists David Hofstra and Dominic Duval , guitarist Ken Wessel and drummer Lou Grassi since the early 2000s . He currently plays with the Kenbillou ESA Trio with Ken Filiano and Lou Grassi. In June 2009 he performed with his Gagliardi 5tet at the Villach Jazz Festival .

In the judgment of critics Richard Cook and Brian Morton , Gagliardi plays with his full, growling tone in the post-Coltrane tradition.
