Court on the Wasen

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The court on the Wasen was a court (office) named after its old painting in the county of Ziegenhain in Hesse . The painting place uf den Wasen is located at the field "At the ten gardens"; the field name "Galgenberg" about 2 km north of Ziegenhain indicates an old place of execution.

The court uf den Wasen is mentioned for the first time in 1360/67, but apparently existed long before that. It probably had the function of a count's court and a relatively large-scale office . Around 1331/1360 its area was considerably reduced by the establishment of the offices and courts of Neukirchen , Landsburg and Schönstein and the associated assignment of around 25 places.

The court, hereinafter referred to as the Ziegenhain court, was responsible for both high and low jurisdiction . As a so-called Oberamt, it was also the appeal body for all offices in the county . The jurisdiction of the court also extended to the city of Ziegenhain from the start . In the 16th century, the court for town and office was held together, with the court, which was chaired by the mayor , was made up of the town councilors and six lay judges from the office. In the course of the increasing centralization of the embarrassing jurisdiction by the Hessian landgraves since the middle of the 16th century, the Oberamt Ziegenhain gradually became responsible for these legal cases in all offices of the former Grafschaft Ziegenhain.
