The documentary Germaine Damar - The dancing star by Michael Wenk portrays the Luxembourg-born actress and dancer who was one of the stars of German-language revue film in the 1950s and early 1960s. The world premiere of the documentary took place on June 14, 2011 in the presence of Germaine Damar and director Michael Wenk in the Luxembourg cinema Utopia. The production was released on DVD in Luxembourg in November 2011, published by the national Center national de l'audiovisuel (CNA).

action

In the 60-minute documentary, Germaine Damar looks back on her eventful life: on her youth in Pétange in Luxembourg and in Paris , her first appearances as a member of an artist trio and her fairytale film career, during which she shot 28 cinema productions. Like few actresses in the German-language entertainment cinema of the post-war period, the trained artist and dancer - with a few exceptions - is completely committed to the genre of the revue film. The documentation is therefore also dedicated to the characteristics of this genre, thematizing the production conditions at the time and the decline of the revue film in the early 1960s. The focus of the portrait is Germaine Damar's collaboration with audience favorites such as Peter Alexander , Heinz Erhardt or Georg Thomalla . Numerous film clips and photo documents, some of which were published for the first time, illustrate the life and career of the actress, who also appeared in front of the camera in France, Spain and Argentina. In addition, there are statements from fellow actors such as Sonja Ziemann , Joachim Fuchsberger , Walter Giller , Claus Biederstaedt , Peter Weck , Maria Sebaldt and Chris Howland . Also remember: The film director Hermann Leitner and Geneviève Hellen-Haeck, the sister and former stage partner of Germaine Damar. Désirée Nosbusch gives the commentary for the film .
