Gero Schachthöfer

Gero shaft Höfer (* 18th September 1948 in Bonn ) is a Brigadier General of the Air Force of the Armed Forces and since September 30, 2010 retired. In his last employment, he was since July 2007 Commander of the Federal Armed Forces Command USA and Canada in Reston (Virginia) .

Military career

Training and first uses

Schachthöfer joined the Bundeswehr as an officer candidate in Fürstenfeldbruck in 1967 . The officer training at the Air Force Officer School in Neubiberg was followed by training as an anti-aircraft missile officer HAWK at the Air Force Missile School in El Paso , USA . This was followed in 1970 as a platoon leader and fire control officer of the HAWK weapon system in the anti-aircraft missile battalion 37 in Cuxhaven . From 1973 to 1974 Schachthöfer was the head of the non-commissioned officer course in anti-aircraft missile regiment 3 in Heide / Holstein . This was followed by a position as lecture director at the Luftwaffe officers' school in Neubiberg, before he returned to Heide / Holstein at the end of 1977 and was deployed there for a few months in the anti-aircraft missile battalion 38 as a reconnaissance officer. From 1978 to 1981 Schachthöfer was adjutant to the commanding general Luftflotte, Lieutenant General Bruno Loosen, in Cologne and then until 1982 reconnaissance officer in the anti-aircraft missile battalion 33 in Lenggries / Obb.

General staff training and service as a staff officer

This was followed by general staff training at the command academy of the Federal Armed Forces in Hamburg from 1982 to 1984. Schachthöfer then became an operations officer and squadron chief in the 2nd squadron of the 37 anti-aircraft missile battalion in Bremervörde, before he returned to the command academy of the Federal Armed Forces in Hamburg and there as a planning staff officer for the general staff course the Luftwaffe was used. In 1988 Schachthöfer was transferred to Mons, Belgium, where he was responsible for processing long-term defense planning in the Policy Division of the NATO headquarters Europe ( SHAPE ). From 1990 onwards he was employed in the Federal Ministry of Defense in Bonn, first as a consultant for principles and air force development in the conception and planning department of the air force command and then from 1992 as an adjutant of the air force to the General Inspector of the Bundeswehr, General Klaus Naumann. In 1994 Schachthöfer took over command of the anti-aircraft missile squadron 5 in Erding as a commodore. From 1996 onwards there was again an international assignment on the staff of the Allied Command Baltic Approaches (BALTAP) in Karup, Denmark, as head of department for principle and planning. In 1999 Schachthöfer was again transferred to the Federal Ministry of Defense in Bonn, where he was head of department for the conception and further development of the Air Force in the Air Force Command (FüL III 1) until 2003.

General uses

From April 2003, two assignments followed as deputy division commander, first until May 2006 with the 3rd Air Force Division in Berlin-Gatow and then until June 2007 with the 4th Air Force Division in Aurich. During these periods, Schachthöfer was entrusted with tasks in the field, from February to August 2004 as Deputy Commander (DCOM) Air at the headquarters of the International Security Assistance Force (ISAF) in Kabul / Afghanistan and from May to October 2006 as head of the German Liaison Command at HQ USCENTCOM in Tampa / Florida. From July 2007 to September 2010, Schachthöfer was Commander of the US and Canada Army Command in Reston (Virginia)
