Gert Fouche (born March 22, 1980 in Bloemfontein ) is a South African cyclist who primarily competes in races on the track .

Athletic career

Gert Fouche has been a cyclist since 1996. In 1998 he became national junior champion in the individual time trial . Then he put up in 2009 a pause in cycling to Jura to study and as a lawyer to act. Since 2015 he has competed in cycling races, especially on the track, in the elite class and at the Masters . In 2015 and 2016 he won a total of eleven national Masters titles on the track. At the UCI Masters World Championships 2016 he was world champion in the age group 35-39 in scratch and won silver in the points race as well as in the single pursuit in the age group 35-39, the following year he became Masters world champion in the single pursuit, in the points race and in scratch.

In 2017 Fouche became the South African elite champion in the single and team pursuit . The following year he won these two championships again. In addition, he was African champion in the singles and with Joshua van Wyk , Jean Spies and Steven van Heerden in the team pursuit. He also started at the Commonwealth Games in Australia ; in the single pursuit he finished 21st, in the team pursuit he was fifth with the South African team.

In 2019 Fouche was once again the South African Pursuit Champion. In August of the same year he set three records in the Velodromo Bicentenario in Aguascalientes, Mexico : In the single pursuit over 4000 meters, he improved the national elite record in the single pursuit with 4:20 minutes, which Steven van Herden had with the Commonwealth Games the year before 4: 32.921 minutes. He also improved the international Masters record (35-39) in the pursuit over 3000 meters to 3: 14.2. A few days later, he set a South African Masters hour record over 51.599 kilometers.
