Gert Tönnies

Gert Cornils Johannes Tönnies (born May 15, 1851 in Oldenswort , † July 3, 1928 in Kiel ) was a farmer and member of the German Reichstag .

Life

Gert Tönnies - older brother of the sociologist Ferdinand Tönnies - attended elementary school, received private tuition and graduated from the high school in Husum . From 1868 to 1872 he was a wholesaler apprentice in Hamburg , 1872–73 a year- old volunteer in the 16th Hussar Regiment and from 1874 to 1881 in one of the first wholesale houses in London as a correspondent and accountant. In 1882 he took over the family headquarters in Garding and became a farmer. There he was also deputy mayor and in 1889 mayor. For many years he was also a member of the administrative committee of the Schleswig-Holstein Agricultural Cooperative Association in Kiel and a member of the supervisory board of Schleswig-Holstein's main cooperative in Kiel since it was founded.

From 1898 to 1903 he was a member of the German Reichstag for the constituency of the Province of Schleswig-Holstein 4 ( Tondern , Husum , Eiderstedt ) and the National Liberal Party . Between 1908 and 1918 he was also a member of the Prussian House of Representatives and at times also a member of the Schleswig-Holstein Provincial Parliament .
