Gertrud Fridh

Gertrud Fridh (born November 26, 1921 in Gothenburg , † October 11, 1984 in Stockholm ) was a Swedish theater and film actress .

Life

From 1942 she studied at the drama school of the Gothenburg City Theater. In the late 1940s and 50s she performed in Gothenburg, Stockholm and Malmö . Already in Gothenburg she played under the direction of Ingmar Bergman , who also made films with her like Wild Strawberries (1957), The Face and The Hour of the Wolf (1967).

From 1958 to 1977 Gertrud Fridh was an ensemble member at Sweden's national theater , the Royal Dramatic Theater in Stockholm. Here she played a number of major roles, including Phaedra in Euripides ' Hippolytos (1965). One of her most acclaimed roles was that of Hedda Gabler in Bergman's legendary production of Ibsen in 1964.

In 1977 she retired from the theater. She spent the last years of her life in Spain .
