A team (from the Old High German spanish,  "pulling fasten") generally describes a combination of a non-self-propelled land vehicle and a pre-tensioned traction element ( draft animal or towing vehicle ).

Originally the word team designates a group in front of a land vehicle (a wagon , sledge or the like) of harnessed draft animals (see harnessing , equipage , driving ) or a wagon (or sledge etc.) with harnessed draft animals. The team of several draft animals can be formed either one behind the other or next to one another. In agriculture and transport , two draft animals running next to each other form a team, in German-speaking countries mostly horses ("horse and cart"), and in the past also cows and oxen .

In modern vehicles , the original meaning of harnessing draft animals and a (attached) load was transferred to land vehicles (ancient motor train ). Here `` Gespann '' (in Austria technically: `` Kraftwagenzug '' ) refers to the combination of several vehicles, at least one of which is a towing vehicle , examples:

Alternatively, a team is also called a train , especially when several vehicles are coupled one behind the other, see truck and bus train . The term is more common in the railway sector, see also train (rail transport) .
