The common sun bride ( Helenium autumnale ) is a species of the sunflower family (Asteraceae).

description

The common sun bride is a perennial herbaceous plant that forms a short rhizome and reaches heights of 50 to 170 centimeters. The stem is winged. The leaves are sessile, lanceolate, with distant ears or with entire margins and descending on the stem. The numerous heads are arranged in a panicle with a diameter of 5 centimeters. The ray-flowers are wedge-shaped and 3-toothed (up to 5-toothed). The disc is hemispherical to spherical and dirty yellow.

The flowering period extends from July to September, rarely begins in June.

The number of chromosomes is 2n = 34.

Occurrence

The common sun bride is widespread in Canada, the United States, and northern Mexico on marsh meadows and lake shores. In England she is a neophyte.

use

The common sun bride is rarely used as an ornamental plant for borders or as a cut flower . It has been in culture since 1635 at the latest.
