The zoned ear lobe fungus ( Auricularia mesenterica ) is a species of the Tremellomycetidae from the genus of the ear lobe fungi ( Auricularia ).
features
The mushroom has about 2-4 mm thick fruiting bodies with a young gray to bluish and older brown, purple frosted underside. The hymenium is irregularly veined. The upper side of the fruiting bodies is light gray to brownish, brightly zoned and hairy, hairy and tomentose; It can be discolored green by algae, especially towards the point of growth . The fruiting bodies growing above and next to each other like roof tiles either lie flat on the substrate and have protruding edges or are shaped like a shell. When moist they have a gelatinous, swollen consistency, when dry they are horn-like hard.

The zoned ear flap fungus is a weak parasite or saprophyte ( white rot fungus ) on hardwood. The main substrate (in Germany) are poplar and ash , in higher areas also beech . The main habitat of the zoned ear lobe fungus are semi-natural alluvial forests, river valleys and ravine forests; it is also found in corresponding poplar plantations. The fruiting bodies appear all year round if the weather is appropriate.
distribution
The zoned ear flap fungus is apparently cosmopolitan. It becomes rarer in Europe towards the north. It loves warmth and is found in Germany mainly in the river valleys of southern and western Germany.
