The ear lobe fungi ( Auricularia ) are a genus of fungi from the family of the ear lobe fungus relatives .
The type species is the zoned ear flap fungus ( Auricularia mesenterica ).
features
The ear flap fungi are characterized by firm or soft gelatinous fruiting bodies, which are resupinate (with the upper side lying against the substrate) to effuso-reflex (half resupinate) or have an ear- to shell-shaped habit . The top is smooth to tomentose, the underside has a smooth to wrinkled hymenium with veiny ridges.

The members of the genus are saprobionts or weak parasites mainly on hardwoods.

The exact number of species of the genus is unclear: Dörfelt mentions around 15, Krieglsteiner assumes 9. The main distribution area is in the tropics. There are 2 types in Germany.
