Autumn is an alternative metal band from the Netherlands , which, due to their high popularity in the black scene and their corresponding appearance, is also traded under the collective term Gothic Metal .

history

Autumn was founded in 1995 by three former members of the band Internal Putrefaction - Bert Ferwerda, Meindest Sterk and Hilbrand van der Woude. At that time still under the name Stonehenge , the band renamed itself in the same year shortly before keyboardist Menno Terpstra to Autumn. Shortly afterwards van der Woude left the band and was replaced by Jan Grijpstra. In the spring of 1996, singer Welmoed Veersma completed the group.

In April 1997, Autumn created a first demo : Samhain . At demo number two, Autumn , the first singer Veersma only played the recorder because she was suffering from an illness. Nienke de Jong, who was already active with Her Enchantment , was new to the vocal post . Jeroen Bakker also switched from Legacy of Hate to Autumn. With the demo Spring Starts with Autumn they finally got a contract with Samhain Records , but shortly before the recording of the debut album in July 2001 the two guitarists Ferwerda and Bakker left the band. With Jasper Koenders, Autumn got another member of Her Enchantment as a replacement. On June 24, 2002, when Lust Evokes the Curse was finally released . Shortly afterwards the second free seat on the guitar was taken by Jens van der Valk from God Dethroned . Nothing stood in the way of a tour through the Netherlands with Within Temptation and After Forever, including a performance at Dynamo Open Air . At the M'era Luna Festival 2003 they finally played a concert outside the Benelux for the first time.

On September 24, 2004 they released their second album called Summer's End . In Germany, Austria and Switzerland, however, it was only released five months later on February 21, 2005. Koenders left the band at the end of 2004, but was quickly replaced by Mats van der Valk as a European tour was due to support Within Temptation.

In February 2007, Autumn signed with Metal Blade Records , where the album My New Time was released on April 27, 2007 . In January 2008, Nienke de Jong announced her departure from the band. Shortly after her farewell concert on February 29th, her successor was announced, Marjan Welman.

Cold Comfort , the band's fifth studio album, followed in November 2011. The production style of My New Time was retained. The band announced that the entire album was produced almost without a joint session due to the spatial distances between the individual members. Communication with one another was largely limited to the Internet.
