The Gföhlberghütte is a refuge for Austrian nature lovers in the south-western Vienna Woods . The hut, built at an altitude of 825 m, is located around 500 m south of the Gföhlberg summit and on the municipal boundary between Hainfeld and Brand-Laaben . It is privately managed and is open all year round on weekends and public holidays. The shortest approach is via the gorge height .

history

The hut was built in more than 10,000 voluntary hours of work from 1999 onwards by the local friends of nature Eichgraben and opened in 2003. In 2008 the hut was awarded 1st place in the “Construction” category of the Climate Protection Prize of the Friends of Nature International in Liberec and on January 12, 2012 it was awarded the Austrian Ecolabel by Minister Nikolaus Berlakovich . The fully biological sewage treatment plant was completed in 2015.

Furnishing

The guest room has around 50 seats and around 80 more seats are available in the guest garden. There is also a playground, a children's house and a climbing wall for children.

  • From Bernau: walking time 1½ hours, 350 meters in altitude (green marking to Gföhler Sattel, then blue marking)
  • From Hainfeld train station: walking time 3 hours, 405 meters in altitude (red marking to Sonnleiten, then blue marking)
  • From Klamm (Glashütte): walking time 1½ hours, 410 meters in altitude (red marking)
  • From Laaben main square: walking time 2½ hours, 480 meters in altitude (green marking to Gföhler Sattel, then blue marking)
