The Ghorfa Arab-German Chamber of Commerce and Industry e. V. is a registered association to represent all Arab Chambers of Commerce in the Federal Republic of Germany.

history

Ghorfa was founded in 1976 on the initiative of Arab decision-makers and interested German business circles. The German Chamber of Industry and Commerce (DIHT) had objected to the originally planned name "Arab-German Chamber of Industry and Commerce" because chambers of industry and commerce in Germany are corporations under public law and an association under private law does not use the protected term "Chamber" should use. The registry court approved the DIHT. On December 8, 1976, the entry in the register of associations of the Bonn District Court took place as a registered association with the name “Arab-German Association for Trade and Industry e. V. Ghorfa ". "Ghorfa" (غرفة, DMG ġurfa ) the Arabic word for "chamber". Ghorfa has had its headquarters in Berlin since August 1st, 2000. Abdulaziz Al-Mikhlafi has been Secretary General since June 2000.

task

Ghorfa supports companies in their economic endeavors to gain a foothold in the Arab and German markets. It provides regular information on general economic trends, industry-specific developments, potential business areas and investment opportunities in 22 Arab countries . Personal contacts come first in the Arab business world. The events organized by Ghorfa, such as the German-Arab economic, health, tourism and education forum, delegation trips or trade fair participation, offer opportunities for direct dialogue with Arab entrepreneurs.

competence

The Ghorfa would like to promote the cooperation of German and Arab companies on the Arab and German market. The association has a network of decision-makers from business and politics in the Arab world, to which members have access. This is also guaranteed by the sponsorship of the General Union of the Arab Chambers of Commerce, the Arab League , the Arab Chambers of Industry and Commerce and the Arab embassies in Germany. The Ghorfa maintains relationships with these institutions. Almost all the presidents of the Arab chambers are members of the Ghorfa Presidium. All Arab ambassadors are represented on the Presidium or honorary members. These direct connections and experience enables Ghorfa in a position to its members a wide portfolio offer of services. Ghorfa works directly with German federal ministries such as the Federal Ministry of Economics . Ghorfa also cooperates with German chambers of foreign trade and the German Chamber of Industry and Commerce.

Ghorfa acts as a service provider in the fulfillment of official formalities in connection with commercial transactions between the Federal Republic of Germany and Arab states. On behalf of the Arab embassies, Ghorfa checks trade documents to ensure that all regulations of the respective countries have been complied with. It is certified that the products contain no parts from Israel . The practice was introduced in the 1970s as part of the Arab League's boycott of Israel . In 2011, the association received 900,000 euros, which corresponds to 43 percent of the total income. Thomas Bach and Peter Ramsauer were therefore criticized for their work for the Ghorfa.
