Franz Burgers (born October 14, 1845 in Geldern , † March 29, 1911 in Wiesbaden ) was a German designer and steel mill manager .

Life

Burgers was born in Kleve in 1845, he was the son of customs officer Franz Jodocus Burgers and his wife Elisabeth Burgers, nee. Devillier . After an apprenticeship as a locksmith , he first worked in the machine factory in Cologne-Bayenthal, then from 1867 as a design engineer at the Friedrich-Wilhelms-Hütte in Troisdorf . His work in the construction of a blast furnace plant in Mülheim am Rhein brought him into contact with the Bochumer Verein , for which - after a study trip to England aimed at this - he built a blast furnace plant in Bochum , which was particularly advanced for its time . In 1878 the industrialist August Thyssen recruited him to work at the Schalker Mine and Steelworks Association , for which he worked for around three decades and developed various new types of technical elements in blast furnace construction. He rose to the position of CEO in this company and, after the merger with Gelsenkirchener Bergwerks-AG in 1907, was a member of the board until his death in 1911 .

1905-1910 he was a member for the constituency of Gelsenkirchen City and NLP the county council of the province of Westphalia on.

Burgers was an Old Catholic denomination ; He was awarded the honorary title of Commercial Councilor for his professional services . His marriage to Hedwig geb. Kutscher came from the son of the same name, Franz Burgers (1877–1930), who also made a career in the coal and steel industry in the Ruhr area. He found his final resting place in the Poppelsdorf cemetery in Bonn.
