Giacomo Mari (born October 17, 1924 in Vescovato ( CR ), † October 16, 1991 in Cremona ) was an Italian football player and coach .

During his active career he played as a winger for Juventus Turin and Sampdoria Genoa, among others .

Career

In the club

Giacomo Mari began his career in 1942 with the US Cremonese , not far from his hometown Vescovato. After the forced break from the Italian football championships due to the Second World War , he continued his career there in 1945/46.

In 1946 Mari moved to Atalanta Bergamo , for whom he made his Serie A debut on September 22, 1946 in a 3-1 home game against Juventus Turin . After three years as a regular at Atalanta, Mari went to Juventus Turin for the 1949/50 season . At Juve he immediately won the Scudetto under English coach Jesse Carver in his first season . After four seasons and another league title in 1951/52 , Giacomo Mari moved to Sampdoria Genoa in 1953 . For the 1956/57 season he finally went to Calcio Padova , where he ended his active career at the end of the 1959/60 season, after a total of 426 Serie A games and 24 goals.

In the national team

Giacomo Mari made his debut for the Italian national football team under Vittorio Pozzo on August 2, 1948 in a 9-0 victory over the USA . He then took part in the 1950 World Cup in Sweden and the 1954 World Cup in Switzerland with the Squadra Azzurra . Mari completed one game at both tournaments, but retired with his team after the preliminary round. The 1: 4 against Switzerland in the last group match at the 1954 world tournament is also the last of Maris' eight international matches for Italy.

As a trainer

After his active career, Giacomo Mari worked as a coach in the 1960s and 1970s without having any resounding success.
