Gianclaudio Bressa (born January 16, 1956 in Belluno ) is an Italian politician.

biography

Bressa worked professionally as a management consultant. In 1988 he was elected for the Democrazia Cristiana (DC) in the municipal council of his hometown Belluno, from 1990 to 1993 he ruled as mayor. As a member of the Partito Popolare Italiano (PPI) he was elected to the Chamber of Deputies of the Italian Parliament for the first time in 1996 , where he belonged to the Ulivo faction . In 2001 he stood as a joint candidate for the Ulivo and the South Tyrolean People's Party in the single constituency of Bozen - Laives for the Chamber of Deputies , in which he prevailed against Franco Frattini . In 2002 he completed the merger of the PPI with two other parties to form Democrazia è Libertà - La Margherita , which in 2007 became part of the Partito Democratico (PD). In 2006, 2008 and 2013 he was re-elected in the multi-person constituency of Trentino-South Tyrol . In the parliamentary elections in 2018 , he entered the Senate with 43% of the votes in the Bolzano single-electoral district .

In the course of his political career, Bressa was a member of Italian governments several times. From 1998 to 2000 he served in the D'Alema I and D'Alema II Cabinets as State Secretary for Public Services and Regional Affairs. From 2014 to 2018 he again served in the Renzi and Genitloni cabinets as State Secretary for Regional Affairs. In addition, he has been a long-standing member of the so-called six and twelve commission , which work out implementing provisions for the further development of the autonomy of South Tyrol . In 2013 he was awarded the Great Order of Merit of the Province of South Tyrol .
