Gianluca Ambrosetti

Gianluca Ambrosetti (born August 10, 1974 in Zurich , Switzerland) is a Swiss physicist and jazz musician ( saxophones , composition ).

Ambrosetti grew up as the son of the trumpeter and industrialist Franco Ambrosetti in Ticino. After graduating from high school in 1994, he studied jazz saxophone in Boston, Lausanne and Paris until 1997 in order to work as a professional musician. From 1997 to 2003 he completed a master's degree in theoretical physics at the University of Bologna . As a consultant to the Ticino Chamber of Commerce, he then prepared an expert opinion on alternative energy drives in road traffic, where he mainly dealt with hydrogen technology . After a period in industry, during which he was the technical director of the newly established RFID department at Finser Packaging SA , he began a doctoral degree at the ETH Lausanne in 2007 , which he completed in 2010 with a doctoral thesis on insulator- conductor transitions in polymers Graphite Nanomaterials. In 2011 he was awarded the EPFL Prix Professor René Wasserman for this.

From 2011 to 2015, he led a research group at Airlight Energy , a company that deals with solar energy . He reported on the results of the work at TED 2014, among others . In 2016 he founded Synhelion , a company that develops solar fuels (from sunlight and carbon dioxide).

In addition, he continues to work as a saxophonist. He can be heard again and again in his father's bands, but also appears with other groups such as Jazz Fantasy and wrote the music for the short film La princesse Recherche . He also leads his own trio and a quartet with Dado Moroni . The critics highlight him as an imaginative improviser. Tom Lord recorded eleven recordings with him between 1999 and 2017.
