The Gibraltar pound is the currency of the British overseas territory of Gibraltar . The ISO 4217 code is GIP.

In addition to the British pound sterling, Gibraltar has had its own banknotes since 1927 and its own coins since 1988. Banknotes are available in 5, 10, 20, 50 and 100 pound denominations, 1, 2, 5, 10, 20 and 50 (new) pence coins , and 1, 2 and 5 pound coins . The fixed exchange rate between the two currencies is 1: 1. The coins between 1 pence and 2 pounds have the same dimensions and weights as the corresponding coins of the pound sterling and are in small quantities in circulation in Great Britain. Gibraltar pound banknotes, however, are used in Great Britain by shops i. d. Usually not accepted as a means of payment; however, it can be exchanged at banks.
