The Guernsey Pound (English Guernsey Pound , Guernsey £ ) is the currency of the Channel Island Guernsey .
The value of the Guernsey pound is exactly the same as the British pound . It is published by the Treasury and Resources Department of the States of Guernsey , mainly Guernsey , Sark , Herm and Alderney . It is the usual currency of the islanders, but the pound sterling can also be used everywhere in Guernsey and the mentioned islands. The pound has been pegged to the British pound since 1921. Before that, local means of payment such as doubles , shilling and pound were pegged to the French franc . In 1971 the coin system was decimalized. 1 pound is equivalent to 100 pence today.
Outside the States of Guernsey , the Guernsey pound is only recognized on the neighboring Channel Island of Jersey , whereby the States of Jersey have their own currency, the Jersey pound , which is also linked to the pound sterling in terms of value and is also only recognized as a means of payment in the Channel Islands is.
