Gibril Sankoh (born May 15, 1983 in Freetown , Sierra Leone ) is a former Dutch football player with roots from Sierra Leone.
Career
society
Gibril Sankoh started playing football in his native Sierra Leone at Royal Stars Freetown . He went to De Kennemers Beverwijk in 2002 . In the summer of 2004 he moved to the second division Stormvogels Telstar . After one season he moved to the first division club FC Groningen . There he was finally able to assert himself as a regular player and completed 150 games. In May 2010 he moved to the German second division club FC Augsburg on a free transfer . With the Augsburg team he finished second in the 2010/11 season and achieved promotion to the Bundesliga for the first time with the club . He made his debut in this on August 20, 2011 (3rd matchday) in the 0-2 defeat in the home game against TSG 1899 Hoffenheim .
At the beginning of February 2013, Sankoh moved to Henan Jianye FC in China at his own request . After two years with the club from the city of Zhengzhou , he moved to Roda Kerkrade in the Netherlands in the summer of 2015 . This was followed by positions at the Chinese second division club Meizhou Hakka and the Dutch amateur club ACV Assen . At the end of the 2018/19 season, he ended his career at the age of 36.
National team
In summer 2012, Sankoh decided to play for the national team of his native Sierra Leone . At the beginning of September 2012 he was nominated by the national coach Lars-Olof Mattsson for the Sierra Leonean national soccer team . On September 8, 2012, Sankoh made his debut in the national team in the first leg of the second qualifying round in the Africa Cup against Tunisia (2-2), when he was in the starting line-up and played through.
