Gilbert Obermair

Gilbert Obermair (born February 26, 1934 in Wels , Upper Austria ; † December 8, 2002 in Munich ), was an Austrian journalist and author of games, advice and hobby literature .

Life

Obermair first completed a degree in commercial science in Vienna and then from 1961 worked in Germany as a publishing clerk and music producer. He composed hits and also appeared as a lyricist under the pseudonym Lambacher . He trained as a systems analyst and from 1966 worked as a systems specialist at IBM . In 1970 he switched to the software company ADV / Orga and from 1974 worked as a planner of IT, teaching and play systems. It was around this time that he began to play games as a writer and journalist, mainly word and letter games . In 1975 his first game of oracles for interpreting the future with cards and dice came on the market at Heyne Verlag .

In 1979 he was involved in the publication of the first German game magazine Spiel (forerunner of the game box ). In the early years of Game of the Year , Obermair was a jury member in 1979 and 1980. Obermair, who had his professional residence in Munich, wrote books with compilations of games of all kinds. He also contributed advisory literature to his hobbies, folk music and peasant painting.

Gilbert Obermair found his final resting place in Lambach .

Prizes and awards

Obermair's game Quibbix was selected for Game of the Year in 1981 .
