Life

"El Coco" Rodríguez came to Club Deportivo Guadalajara in the early 1960s, where he initially guarded the goal in their reserve teams. At the beginning of the 1964/65 season, the then master coach Javier de la Torre brought him to the first team, where Rodríguez even managed at times to displace the same age and previous goalkeeper Ignacio Calderón . He guarded the goal in the decisive game against city rivals Nacional de Guadalajara (1: 1), in which the Chivasi brought their seventh championship title under wraps.

A few years later, Coco Rodríguez even made the leap into the national team , for which he completed a total of five games over the full distance in 1967 and 1968. An interesting side note is the fact that in the more than 40 games that "El Tri" played between July 19, 1966, when the Mexican goalkeeper legend Antonio Carbajal , who was under contract with Club León , played her farewell game, and May 20, 1969, When Francisco Castrejón of the UNAM Pumas made his debut in the national team's dress, only goalkeepers from the three big Guadalajara clubs guarded the national team's goal. These were Ignacio Calderón and Gilberto Rodríguez from Chivas Guadalajara, Javier Vargas from Atlas Guadalajara and Antonio Mota and Jesús Mendoza from Oro Guadalajara .

El Coco Rodríguez, who ended his active career after the 1977/78 season, played the following international matches:
