Gilberto Sepúlveda López (born February 4, 1999 in Guasave ) is a Mexican football player who is under contract with the first division club Deportivo Guadalajara . The central defender is a former Mexican U20 international .

Career

Sepúlveda started playing football in his hometown of Guasave with the Diablos Azules de Guasave and in 2012 moved to the youth department of Deportivo Guadalajara . He was promoted to the first team for the 2018/19 season , but only made his debut on January 9, 2019 in a 2-1 away win in the Copa MX against second division club Cimarrones de Sonora . During this season he completed five more cup games for the Chivas .

On September 1, 2019 (8th matchday) he made his debut in a 1-1 draw against CD Cruz Azul in the top Mexican division . In this Apertura 2019 he played ten league games and has been a regular player in central defense since his first appearance . In the shortened Clausura 2019 , he was used in eight league games.

National team

For the Mexican U20 national team , Gilberto Sepúlveda played twelve international matches between March 2018 and May 2019, in which he scored two goals. During this time he took part in the selection of the CONCACAF U-20 Championship 2018 in the United States and the U20 World Championship 2019 in Poland . Sepúlveda was the regular captain of both tournaments.
