Giorgi Makaridze ( Georgian გიორგი მაკარიძე ; born March 31, 1990 in Tbilisi ) is a Georgian football goalkeeper .

Career

society

Makaridze moved up in 2006 at the age of 16 in the second team of the Georgian first division club Dinamo Tbilisi . With the reserve eleven of the capital city club, he entered the second-highest national league and gained some match practice there. He was also in the squad of the club's first selection, but was not used for this. Especially through his appearances in the national team, he aroused the interest of foreign clubs such as the German clubs Werder Bremen and Borussia Dortmund , but it was a French first division club, Le Mans FC , that brought him to the turn of the year 2008/09. A transfer fee of 400,000 euros was due for the transfer.

At Le Mans he was initially intended mainly for the fourth-rate reserve team, but moved up to the professional squad in the summer of 2009 and had a rival in the Gabonese Didier Ovono , whom he had to give way in Tbilisi. On November 29, 2009 he reached his debut in the French top division in a 1-1 draw against AS Saint-Étienne . He also played the following game, but had to wait a long time for further considerations and in 2010 also suffer relegation to the second division. During the 2011/12 season he advanced to number one in goal, but lost his regular place at the end of the season. In June 2013, he dissolved his contract with the French after relegation to the third division, which was later even followed by forced relegation to sixth division.

After terminating his contract, he remained without a club until he was signed by the Cypriot first division club Doxa Katokopia in April 2014 . For this, however, he never played a competitive game and already switched again in the subsequent summer break to join the Portuguese second division CD Feirense . There he became a regular goalkeeper after a while and, thanks to a narrow lead, achieved promotion to the top class in 2016. After the promotion, he joined the Moreirense FC , which was also first class . In the winter break of 2017/18 he then moved on to Rio Ave FC .

National team

Although he had not yet played a game for the first team of Dinamo Tbilisi, the then 17-year-old Makaridze was in the squad of the Georgian national team from 2007 . For a qualifier for the European Championship in 2008 against Scotland, he received the trust of national coach Klaus Toppmöller on October 17, 2007 . He stood between the posts, remained clean thanks to a strong performance and celebrated a surprising 2-0 victory with the team. He was then called up to the team a few more times and wore his country's jersey for the third and, for the time being, last time on March 26, 2008 in a 4-1 draw in a friendly against Northern Ireland. After a break of more than nine years, he celebrated his comeback in 2017 and has so far played another six international matches.
