Giorgio di Pietro Andreoli , sometimes called Maestro Giorgio da Gubbio (* between 1465 and 1470 in Intra , Lake Maggiore , † 1553 in Gubbio ) was an Italian sculptor , potter and majolica painter .

Andreoli learned the pottery trade in his hometown and later went on the obligatory wandering as a journeyman . Around 1485 he tried to settle down as an artisan in Pavia , but did not succeed. Andreoli was only able to settle in Gubbio in the Duchy of Urbino . Supported by Prince Giovanni Maria da Montefeltre , Andreoli founded his own workshop there. There he made the acquaintance of Giovanni Santi ; later, Andreoli's brothers Salimbene and Giovanni Andreoli also worked there .

From 1492 the brothers Andreoli u. a. also with Francesco di Giovanni da Borgo. At the time, Giovanni della Robbia was the trendsetter in the style . The Andreoli brothers later separated, founded their own workshops and also developed apart artistically.

He preferred to make himself famous for his majolica paintings in yellow and ruby ​​red with metallic sheen in the factory there. The bowls, plates and jugs that he decorated are highly valued because of this metal chandelier and are highly valued by collectors.

Two of his terracotta altars are in San Domenico in Gubbio (1511) and a three-part altar with a depiction of the Madonna in protective cloak from the same church (now in the possession of the Städel Art Institute in Frankfurt am Main , exhibited in the Liebieghaus ). His bowls and bowls, of which the Kensington and British Museums in London, the Louvre in Paris and the Kunstgewerbemuseum Berlin are particularly rich, he decorated with mythological, historical and allegorical representations, with coats of arms, half-length portraits and grotesques.
